The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research & Education Foundation
was incorporated in 1977. Its purpose is to provide opportunities through research and education in support of wellness and optimal patient care. 

The goals of the Foundations are currently achieved through the Grants Program and Poster Competition Program.

Grants Program

Grants are awarded by the TSHP Research and Education Foundation Board of Directors for projects or research conducted within the objectives of the Foundation. The TSHP R&E Foundation currently makes available grants up to $2,500 annually. 

Alcalde Southwest Leadership Conference

For pharmacy residents, fellows, and preceptors, its purpose is to stimulate and lend support to the development of pharmaceutical care in the region, to offer experiences that will foster professional leadership among practitioners and managers, and to facilitate the growth of residents and fellows as future leaders of the profession of pharmacy.

Internship Programs

Each year in the spring Internships are awarded to pharmacy students in order to provide exposure to the variety of pharmacy practices available. These include:

Residency Programs

As part of it is mission, the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation provided funding for the Pharmacy Residency Program. For a list of available Residency Programs click here.

Poster Program

The Poster Competition Program of the TSHP Research and Education Foundation recognizes and honors deserving health-system pharmacy practitioners and technicians for participation in projects that contribute to the advancement of the progression of pharmacy through improved practice methods, management, outcomes, or improved patient care. Projects must be presented at the Texas Society of Health- System Pharmacists Annual Seminar Contributed Poster Session.

Scholarship Program

The Foundation provides up to 17 scholarships to undergraduate pharmacy students and non-traditional Pharm.D. or Graduate Students. The deadline for 2009-2010 applications is February 28, 2009. The scholarships to be awarded and the amounts will be determined by the Foundation Board in January, 2009 based on market conditions and investment performance.

Clinical Pharmacy Education & Research Program - The Robert G. Leonard Memorial Fund

The Robert G. Leonard Memorial Fund is a separate fund within the Foundation. This fund is dedicated to the support of clinical pharmacy education and research in the State of Texas. Scholarships are awarded to Pharm.D. students from this fund and as the fund grows, will soon support small grants for research projects of a clinical nature.

The Strategic Planning Goals
of the Foundation include:

• achieving a leadership role as a provider of education, training and research opportunities;
• fostering the development of novel approaches to enhance wellness and optimal patient care.
