Alcalde

  • Continue communications & joint meetings between Alcalde, R&E and TSHP; (Annual seminar planned meeting).  No action required.
  • Increase participation from other states (LA, AK, OK, and NM).  Review ‘why would they want to come here?’ to determine marketing approach.   (Others regions pay for travel and have larger budgets). Grants

Responsible parties: Sharon Bronson, David D. Allen, Paul F. Davis

  • Need a systematic approach to achieve maximum dollar grant – how to approach solicitation of grants
  • Focus on how to get and award grants
  • Develop a plan on how to obtain grants
  • Undertake a Zoomerang survey (before the end of the year)to identify research interest areas of members and a panel to evaluate resources and potential interest area;
  • Identify where to target interest areas
  • Do a 6 month plan then use next 6 months to evaluate interest; solicit for interest in funding, partner with individuals – develop research pool and facilitate them getting grants
  • Separate ‘grants’ and ‘awards’ effective in 2006
  • Develop a ‘cover sheet’ (Bronson) for grant submissions
  • Develop an online grant application form (Davis/Patry).
Posters

            Responsible parties: Sharon Bronson

  • Poster form can be currently printed off web site
  • Develop on-line submission form; on line review.  1 Due 12/31/04; 2 due 4/1/05.
  • Determine if a poster can be published on line.
  • Use a publication of abstracts and papers policy as suggested by TSHP for presenters.

Scholarships

             Responsible parties: Noted

  • Endow all named funds (currently established at $12,500 to allow a $1,000 scholarship)
  • Consider if a $1,000 scholarship is really valuable or should it be increased
  • Determine if we should change the dollar amount for endowment as a result of market conditions
  • Analyze donations and see how much and how many total donors are directed towards named funds vs. general fund
  • Re-consider the Foundation’s goal for scholarships.  Are we/students better off with many, small scholarships or fewer, larger scholarships?
  • Revise criteria for scholarships
  • Update website
  • Develop an on-line application and reference submission
  • Determine which scholarships will be awarded in 2005 by January 31; get applications to schools by February
  • Initiate periodic contact with named scholarships
  • When moving to establish new named scholarship, put a person with a partner to guide giving and help fund raising
  • Highlight named scholarships and who they are named for, maybe publicize one or two a year
  • Make endowed scholarship more TSHP R&E recognizable, including R&E as part of scholarship name
  • Consider bank drafts
  • Tie into TSHP database; rolling contributors – to recognize at a level;

Development

Responsible parties: Noted

Annual fund raising plans – focus on theme; focus on targeted corporate partners with corporate partners; investigate expansion beyond typical pharmaceutical manufacturers.  It is a good time to hit corporate partners at ASHP Mid year meeting. In the spring, focus on annual seminar activities (donor recognition at the meal function; develop a special fund raiser; meet with targeted corporate partners); in the autumn and winder work on funding requests to targeted corporate partners.  Recognize there is competition for funds with TSHP, Alcalde, hospitals, physicians, other organizations.

Potential corporate partners: Pfizer, BMS, Abbott, Novation, AmerisourceBergen, Merck, Aventis Novartis, AstraZeneca and Dell.

Communication: what and how should we communicate:  Regular schedule of communicating to all members; E-News plus journal; consider focus groups (like ASHP – to visit with people who have donated what their perceptions and motivations are).

Public Relations & Markets – identify who are our customers. What do we want to market and how?  Acknowledgement as provider of education, training, research & practitioner development; “Brand recognition.”

Plan to undertake a mailing to new TSHP members six months after joining; send out Foundation recognition pins once a year to thank contributors.
