Texas Delegates
_The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists conducts annual elections for delegates and alternates from Texas to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists' House of Delegates. Texas is entitled to 6 delegates to serve in the 2012 ASHP Summer meeting, June 9-13 in Baltimore, MD.
Delegate Selection
_The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists shall conduct annual elections for delegates and alternates from Texas to the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists’ House of Delegates.

I. Preferred Criteria to serve as a Texas Delegate or Alternate
a. Active member of ASHP (required by ASHP)
b. Active member of TSHP
c. Past or present service on the TSHP Board of Directors in any of the following capacities:
i. TSHP officer (President, President Elect, Immediate Past President, Secretary, or Treasurer)
ii. Local component chapter officer (President or President Elect)
iii. TSHP council chair or vice chair
d. Familiarity with state and national pharmacy issues
e. Familiarity with the structure and function of ASHP and TSHP
f. Commitment to attend a regional delegate conference and the ASHP Summer Meeting
g. Special consideration is given to those who have served as delegates in the past and who have a history of service in ASHP and TSHP.
II. Election Procedure
a. Nominations:
i. Nominating information along with a description of delegate responsibilities and requirements, shall be sent to all ASHP members residing in Texas by November 1 annually from TSHP headquarters.
b. Determination of Candidates for the Ballot:
i. TSHP headquarters shall send the nominee information to the Nominations Committee by November 15.
ii. The Nominations Committee shall select the slate of candidates and inform those individuals of their nomination. The number of candidates on the ballot will be capped at twice the number of delegates that Texas is allowed
iii. After applying the screening criteria, if there are still more candidates than twice the number of delegates that Texas is allowed, the Nominations Committee will reduce the number through a vote; in case of a tie for the final candidate position, a method of random selection will be used (e.g. coin toss)
iv. The nominee’s acceptance of nomination and willingness to serve shall be a criterion for inclusion on the ballot
v. A ballot and biographical information on each candidate shall be prepared and distributed by TSHP Headquarters by November 30 to all eligible ASHP members for voting. Ballots must be returned by December 15.
vi. Candidates must provide a brief biographical sketch (maximum 250 words) for use by the Nominations Committee and in the official ballot.
c. Determination of Ballot Counts:
i. Candidates with the most votes in decreasing sequential order will be named as delegates
ii. In case of a tie for the final delegate position, a method of random selection will be used (e.g. coin toss); there will not be a re-balloting process.
d. Determination of Alternate Delegates:
i. The number of alternates is capped at ½ of the total number of delegates allowed.
ii. Candidates on the ballot who are not elected as delegates who receive the next most votes will be named as alternates
iii. The highest vote getter will be first alternate, the second highest vote getter second alternate, and so on
e. Determination of Chair of the Texas Delegation:
i. The Chair of the Delegation shall be the delegate who receives the most votes of all candidates.
