Austin Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarship
The Austin Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarship was established in 1998. The scholarship is awarded to students currently enrolled at the University of Texas in either a professional or non-traditional post-graduate degree program. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
Professional student criteria:
The student shall be in the last year of entry-level pharmacy degree at the University of Texas.
The scholarship will be awarded on “need” basis, not scholastic achievement.
The student shall have worked in a health-system pharmacy as a professional student or shall make a commitment to work in a health-system pharmacy upon graduation for at least a year.
Members of the University of Texas Student Chapter of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists shall be given priority over all other students.
Non-traditional Pharm.D. or Graduate Student:
The student shall be enrolled in a post-entry level degree program in pharmacy.
The student shall be a member of the Austin Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In the event that there are no AASHP members who apply for a scholarship in this category at the University of Texas, the scholarship shall be awarded to a member of the AASHP who is enrolled in a post-entry degree program at another College of Pharmacy that is a member of the AACP.
Applications for the scholarship should be submitted to the University of Texas College of Pharmacy Financial Aid/Scholarship Committee. The University of Texas College of Pharmacy Financial Aid/Scholarship Committee shall review all applications and make a recommendation to the AASHP Board of Directors. The AASHP Board of Directors shall approve the scholarship recipient recommendation by a majority vote. The Austin Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarship was established in 1998. The scholarship is awarded to students currently enrolled at the University of Texas in either a professional or non-traditional post-graduate degree program.
Central Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarship
The Central Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists Scholarship was established in 2003 for a pharmacy student completing rotations in the San Antonio area. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
Student should:
Be an active member of CTSHP and TSHP as well as their pharmacy school chapter.
Be a fourth year student at a Texas college or school of pharmacy with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher who will be graduating on time.
Be active in community service, (E.g. have organized or participated in programs with fellow pharmacy students to do hypertension screening in shopping malls or community centers, or a “brown bag” program, or has given lectures on prescription, OTC, or herbal medications at community centers.)
Be currently working in a health-system pharmacy or have worked in one while attending pharmacy school.
Applications should be submitted to by students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate pharmacy program along with references, current grade report, curriculum vitae, proof of San Antonio rotation assignments and letter of interest to the TSHP R&E Foundation Scholarship Committee. The TSHP R&E Scholarship Committee shall select the scholarship recipient from the applications received by the deadline.
Celso and Matiana M. Cuéllar Sr. Scholarship
The Celso and Matiana M. Cuéllar Sr. Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 by TSHP Past President (1999-2000) Lourdes M. Cuéllar in honor and memory of her parents. This scholarship was created to provide qualified students of Hispanic heritage with an opportunity to complete a pharmacy education. The goal of the Cuéllar Scholarship is to promote academic excellence and to afford an opportunity for a student with financial need to reach their fullest potential. Mr. and Mrs. Cuéllar grew up during the Great Depression and highly valued education. They saw education as a pathway toward personal fulfillment and contribution to society, and supported their three children in aspiring to rewarding professional careers. This mantra was also passed along to many other extended family members and children within their community in San Antonio, Texas. Lourdes fondly recalls that she, as well as her siblings were “carded” – i.e. received an I.D. card to the public library as soon as they could read. A $500 scholarship is awarded annually.

Be a full-time student at any College/School of Pharmacy in Texas.
Be a member of the TSHP affiliated student organization at their school or college of pharmacy, or a member of the TSHP student section
Be a U.S. citizen or a Texas resident with permanent U.S. residency status. Demonstrate compassion and spirit of helping others by being active in school and community service.
The candidate must be in good academic standing. GPA may be considered in the selection process. Preference will be given to students of Hispanic background; if there are no eligible Hispanic students, the scholarship is open to students of other minority heritage.
James T. Doluisio Scholarship
The James T. Doluisio Scholarship was established in 1998 and endowed in 2001 in honor of the former Dean of The University of Texas College of Pharmacy and Hoechst Roussel Chair, James T. Doluisio. He served as dean for 25 years, 1973-1998. A native of Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Purdue University, Dr. Doluisio came to Texas from the faculty of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. He is appreciated by former students and colleagues for his great love of the University and pharmacy students. During his tenure he developed the college into one of the top ranked colleges in the United States.

Be a student of any Texas College/School of Pharmacy who has demonstrated leadership qualities as well as academic excellence;
Be a student member of TSHP.
El Paso Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarships
The El Paso Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarship was established in 2002 to recognize pharmacy leadership skills. Four $1,000 scholarships are to be awarded this year.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
Student must be:
A native of the greater El Paso area;
Enrolled in any accredited college or school of pharmacy in the United States;
In good academic standing;
Able to demonstrate leadership qualities in school and/or community activities; and
A student member of TSHP or their state ASHP-affiliate chapter.
Applications should be submitted to by students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate pharmacy program along with references, current grade report, curriculum vitae, proof of residency (birth certificate, driver’s license, high school diploma, etc.) and letter of interest to the TSHP R&E Foundation Scholarship Committee. The Committee shall select the scholarship recipient from the applications received by the deadline.
Lourdes M. Cuéllar/University of the Incarnate Word/El Paso Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarship
One of the four El Paso scholarships was designated in 2009 in honor of TSHP Past President (1999-2000) and R&E Foundation President & Chair (2002-2010) Lourdes M. Cuéllar.
Lourdes has been a Director of Pharmacy at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas for many years, and is an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Houston and associate clinical professor at the University of the Incarnate Word Colleges of Pharmacy. She has served on many state and national Boards and State of Texas health advisory boards by appointments from Governors Bush and Perry. She has contributed to the profession of pharmacy as a leader, practitioner, educator, preceptor and mentor to many students and pharmacists. She has been the recipient of TSHP’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, and is recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. This scholarship honors her long time dedication to students and pharmacy education in Texas.
The Lourdes M. Cuéllar scholarship was created to provide qualified students of Hispanic heritage, with an opportunity to complete a pharmacy education. The goal of this scholarship is to promote academic excellence and to afford an opportunity for a student with financial need to reach their goal of becoming an exemplary pharmacist practitioner. It is awarded annually to a student attending the University of the Incarnate Word John & Rita Feik School of Pharmacy.

Student should:
Be a full-time student at the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy
Be a member of the TSHP affiliated student organization at the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy.
Be a U.S. citizen or a Texas resident with permanent U.S. residency status.
Demonstrate compassion and the spirit of helping others by being active in community service especially with the economically disadvantaged and/or medically underserved.
Be in good academic standing. GPA may be considered in the selection process.
Preference will be given to students from the El Paso area. Preference will be given to students of Hispanic background; if there are no eligible Hispanic students, the scholarship is open to students of other minority heritage.
Dr. Michael Piñón/Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences EPASHP Scholarship
One of the 4 El Paso Scholarships is designated for a student attending Texas Southern University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Dr. Piñón’s alma mater. It was established by the Al Paso Society to honor the contributions of Dr. Michael Piñón in 2006. The criteria for the scholarship are the same as above.
Michael Patry/Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy EPASHP Memorial Scholarship
One of the 4 El Paso Scholarships is designated for a student attending Texas Tech University Health Science Center’s School of Pharmacy. The scholarship was established by the El Paso Society in 2007. It honors Michael Patry, son of Roland and Janice Patry. Michael would have entered his sophomore year at Amarillo High School when he passed away on July 31, 1999 from a heart attack. He was a member of the Amarillo High School Band and an avid horseman, winning many prizes and ribbons in hunter classes of competition. Dr. Patry is a Past President of TSHP and the Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists, as well as a current member of the TSHP R&E Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Patry is Professor and Chair, Department of Pharmacy Practice at Texas Tech University Health Sciences School of Pharmacy. His responsibilities include administrative oversight for the offices of experiential programs, residency programs and pharmacy operations, as well as faculty in the various disciplines of clinical practice and management. The criteria for the scholarship are the same as above.
Eustacio Galvan Memorial Scholarship
The Eustacio Galvan Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 to honor a Past President of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP) (1971-1972) and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research & Education Foundation (TSHP R&E). In addition, Eustacio was a local leader in health-system pharmacy practice in the Houston-Galveston area while serving for 34 years as the Director of Pharmacy at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. A 1959 graduate of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy, Eustacio promoted improvements in the practice of pharmacy during his entire professional career. A $500 scholarship is awarded annually.

Be a member (student section) of TSHP.
Be a full-time pharmacy student at any College/School of Pharmacy in Texas.
Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in their professional coursework.
Preference will be given to applicants who are of Hispanic/Latino descent.
Phyllis B. Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship
The Phyllis B. Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of the mother of TSHP member and Past-President, Diane Ginsburg. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.

Be a student member of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists and their respective student society at their school or college, and
Demonstrate commitment and compassion for others and the pharmacy profession.
Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists Leadership Scholarship
The Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists Leadership Scholarship was established in 2000 to recognize pharmacy leadership skills. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
The GCSHP Leadership Scholarship is awarded to a pharmacist or pharmacy student in an undergraduate or graduate degree program based on leadership, service and academic standing.
The candidate should be active in school and community service. The student must be a member of The Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
The candidate should demonstrate leadership skills. Examples: class officer, organizational officer or representative, or community leadership, etc.
The candidate should be active in health-system pharmacy organizational activities. Examples: monthly meeting attendance, student Board representative, etc.
The candidate must be in good academic standing. GPA may be considered in the selection process.
The applicant should not have received a GCSHP scholarship in the past
Jon Peyton Hudlow Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 1999 through an endowment from the General Fund in memory of Jon Peyton Hudlow (1946-1995). Mr Ludlow was a Past President of TSHP and the TSHP R&E Foundation who died at the age of 48 in Alaska.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
Student should:
Demonstrate good academics and a concern for quality patient care, and
Interact well with peers and patients and energize those around him/her while maintaining a sense of humor and love of life.
The applications should be submitted by students currently enrolled in undergraduate programs at any of the four colleges of pharmacy in Texas (UH, UT, TT, TSU), along with letters of reference, to the TSHP R&E Foundation Scholarship Committee. The TSHP R&E Foundation Scholarship Committee will make the scholarship recipient selection each year from the applications received by the deadline.
Gene Lake Scholarship
The Gene Lake Scholarship fund was established in 2001 in honor of Gene Lake, who served as a member of the TSHP R&E Foundation Board of Directors and as Fundraising Chair. Gene received the TSHP Distinguished Service Award and the TSHP Industry Service Award for his support of pharmacy in the West Texas region while working for Abbott Laboratories. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.

Robert G. Leonard Memorial Scholarship
The Robert G. Leonard Memorial Scholarship is presented to a student currently enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. Applications should be submitted through the UT College of Pharmacy Scholarship Committee. Selection is made by the UT College of Pharmacy Financial Aid Committee.
Glenda Lawson McRee Scholarship
The Glenda Lawson McRee Scholarship was endowed in 2002 in memory of TSHP Past President Glenda Lawson McRee. Glenda was an advocate for mentoring and furthering professional opportunities for students. She served as the TSHP R&E Foundation Scholarship Chair for many years and helped develop the endowed scholarship program. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.

Demonstrate commitment and compassion for others and the pharmacy profession.
The nomination shall consist of a letter of support documenting the nominee’s qualifications for the scholarship from the chapter faculty advisor.
Metroplex Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarships
The Metroplex Society of Health-System Pharmacists Scholarship is for pharmacy students completing rotations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded this year.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
Students should:
Be an active member of MSHP as well as their pharmacy school chapter.
Be a third or fourth year student at a Texas college or school of pharmacy, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher, who will be graduating on time.
Participating in clinical rotations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
Applications should be submitted by students currently enrolled in a pharmacy program along with current grade report, curriculum vitae, proof of Dallas rotation assignments, names of references, and letter of interest to the TSHP R&E Foundation Scholarship Committee. If no applicants meet the complete criteria, then the scholarships may be awarded to students residing in the DFW area, who are not undertaking rotations. If otherwise qualified students do not meet the residency requirements the committee may award the scholarship to another deserving applicant.
Grace Dyan Coggin MSHP Memorial Scholarship
The Metroplex Society of Health-System Pharmacists established a scholarship in memory of Grace Dyan Coggin, granddaughter of TSHP Executive Director Paul F. Davis and his wife Beth in 2009. Grace passed away at the age of 2 years, 5 months as a result of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic disease that strikes about 1 in 6,000 babies each year. About 1 in 40 adults carry the gene. SMA affects muscles throughout the body, although the proximal muscles are often most severely affected.

Demonstrate compassion and love of humanity;
Be in good academic standing.
Preference will be given to students who are afflicted with or have had to overcome a physical disability.
Mark Tamble Memorial Scholarship
The Mark Tamble Memorial Scholarship was established in April 1996 and endowed in 1997 in memory of Mark Tamble (1930-1995), who was the District Sales Manager of Smith, Kline & French, received the TSHP Award of Honor and twice received the TSHP Industry Service Award. Mr. Tamble also served on the R&E Foundation Board for many years. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.

Sandra Evans Webb Scholarship
The Sandra Evans Webb Scholarship was established in 2000 in honor of Sandra Evans Webb, who was a former Executive Vice President of the TSHP R&E Foundation. Sandra served on the University of Houston College of Pharmacy faculty for a number of years. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
Student should:
Be a member of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists or other student organizations affiliated with TSHP, Be enrolled in the P4 year of the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at the University of Houston,
Have successfully completed the didactic portion of Pharm.D.. Program with a grade point average of 3.00 or better, and
Be in the process of completing the clinical rotations of the Internship Program.
Applications are to be made through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy Financial Aid/Scholarship Committee’s standard process. The selection of the recipient shall be made by a committee chosen by the UH College of Pharmacy. A $500 scholarship will be awarded this year.
