Meeting Summaries
_September 27, 2011:
The East Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists met on September 27. President Andrea Ries called the meeting to order with approximately 20 in attendance. She informed the group that continuing education certificates from the May meeting were being mailed out and that the local chapter was up to date in its membership dues. After a brief discussion, it was agreed to donate $250.00 to the TSHP-sponsored reception at the upcoming ASHP Mid-Year meeting in New Orleans.
After dinner, Astra Zeneca representative Cindy Moore presented information on Brilinta, following which a CE presentation was made by Joe Sartor, PharmD, on Geriatric Patients Drug Therapy.
November 15, 2011
Tuesday, November 15 was the date of the recent meeting of the East Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists. Held at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, the meeting of approximately 18 pharmacists, technicians, and associate members was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by president Andrea Ries.
Business matters included the distribution of brochures for use in encouraging pharmaceutical representatives to seek associate membership status in TSHP, the benefits of joining TSHP when renewing one’s local chapter affiliation, and a reminder that nominations and election of a new president-elect will take place at the next meeting.
After the dinner sponsored by CSL Behring, the continuing education program was presented by Chris Tawwater, Pharm D, BCPS from Texas Tech School of Pharmacy in Abilene, TX. His topic was updates in the management of C. difficile infection.
The next chapter meeting will be on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital.
