_The Membership Development Council shall be responsible for membership recruitment and retention, development of new sources of revenue to be reviewed/approved by the Executive Committee, and development of services to benefit members and enhance the value of the TSHP membership investment.

Discussion:

• Chair Glenn Anderson presented an overview of the duties of the Council, which include membership recruitment and retention, development of new sources of revenue, and development of services to benefit members and enhance the value of the TSHP membership investment;
• Paul reviewed existing TSHP membership materials including a list of member benefits, a plan for membership recruitment and retention developed by the 2009-10 Council on Communication Affairs; an overview of what types of practice settings TSHP attempts to serve and represent; the TSHP membership application, website and component chapter map; the historical trends in TSHP membership, requirements for TSHP/local membership in some local chapter areas, and the TSHP membership cycles.  He also presented the Council with a “Why join?” presentation developed by the New York Council of Health-System Pharmacists;
• The Council engaged in an extended brainstorming session regarding membership growth and retention issues and communications needs;
• Paul Davis will provide staff support to the Council until Leah returns from maternity leave, and she will then become primary staff contact.

Decisions:

• The staff will continue work on the TSHP Facebook, Twitter and listserv projects;
• The Council should explore ways to help enhance locals participating in mandatory local/state membership;
• TSHP should increase and enhance its marketing efforts, using social media and other routes;
• Staff should investigate the costs and benefits of Facebook ads and the organization should continue to explore the best uses of Facebook;
• An experiment will be made of posting ‘daily news’ on the Facebook page to drive followers to the TSHP website;
