Hospital Technician Job Description
As a technician in a hospital you are responsible for filling medication orders, stocking automated dispensing systems on the floors, you are required to be IV certified in order to make intravenous compounds in the IV lab and also to make Chemotherapy products. Technicians also deliver patient specific medications to the floors, usually to a drawer or a box outside the patients’ room. There is also a possibility of having to compound medications together to make an ointment or a cream or a suspension. You will also be lifting and moving IV fluid boxes and you will be on your feet most of your shift. You will be in all areas of the hospital restocking medications or IV fluids.

Sterile Products (IV) Training
Most colleges that offer Pharmacy Technician training will include a Sterile Products or IV training course. However, to gain the training as an individual, a technician can purchase a training manual directly to complete the didactic portion of the program. If the technician does not currently work at a hospital typically they could contact a local hospital and request a IV trained pharmacist validate the hands-on portion of the program.
